The Route to The Roots - AN EXCITING FIND
To a young student, history is often a jumble of facts and figures, dates and dynasties, pac- ked between the covers of textbooks. Such drab compilations seldom give a clue to the culture, life style and ethos of people during different periods of time.In this new series, an attempt is made to bring alive the history and culture of India through the  adventures of Vijay and Durga. The focus is not on the heroes of our history but rather on the people who produced them. Though presented in the form of fiction, it is based on extensive research and authentic data. We are sure our young readers will enjoy sharing the adventures of Vijay and Durga.

This comic-style publication aims to bring India's ancient history and archaeology to life for young readers. It follows the adventures of two children, Vijay and Durga, and their grandfather as they explore the ruins of the Indus Valley Civilization. The story blends factual information with fiction to make learning about history engaging and relatable. The story is set at an archaeological site where the Indus Valley Civilization once flourished, approximately 5,000 years ago. Vijay, Durga, and their grandfather are the main characters.

The grandfather is passionate about archaeology and guides the children through the site. The children initially find the site boring, but their grandfather explains the significance of the ruins, such as the advanced city planning, drainage systems, and artifacts like terracotta bullocks and pottery. The discovery of a mysterious 'time transporter' toy adds a fictional twist, allowing the children to imagine traveling back in time to witness ancient life firsthand. Through playful exploration and imagination, the children learn about the daily life, civic sense, and technological advancements of the Indus Valley people. The comic emphasizes the importance of archaeology in uncovering stories of ordinary people from the past, not just famous heroes. It introduces concepts like city planning, hygiene, measurement systems, and the significance of artifacts in understanding history. The narrative encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and appreciation for India's rich cultural heritage.
