Synopsis
Jungle Tantram is the first novel authored by Shravan Kumar Goswami. This novel portrays the socio-political fabric of our country which stirs the inner most core of the reader. Written in Panchatantra style, the novel revolves around four characters, viz. the lion, the peacock, the serpent and the mouse representing the politician, the administrator, the capitalist and the common man respectively. The lion becomes the lord of the jungle after creating a false belief that he will free the animals by defeating the erstwhile lion king. The peacock, adept in dancing to anyone's tune, is made the administrator. The serpent, endowed with a forked tongue, dorns the role of the capitalist. The mouse, who adapts to any condition of living, remains the common person.

About The Author

Shravan Kumar Goswami was born on 22nd January 1932 at Ranchi in eastern Bihar, now the capital of Jharkhand. Goswamiji, who retired as Head of the Department of Hindi at Ranchi University is totally engaged in literary pursuits. Literary activities have been an integral part of Goswamiji since his student days. A sense of discipline and beauty is embellished in his writings. Strength in simplicity has been the hallmark of Goswamiji's language. Goswamiji has established himself as a multi- faceted writer in Hindi literature by dealing with his mighty pen in various prosaic forms of short stories, novels, one act plays, drama, radio plays, memoirs etc. Goswamiji has carved a niche for himself as one of the novelists of the post-sixty period who are greatly influenced by socio-political consciousness. He has enriched Hindi literature with more than two dozen priceless works. His objective is to establish a conscious, strong, healthy and prosperous society. He has been honoured with various awards like Radhakrishna Puraskar, Premchand Anushamsa Puraskar and Manav Sangam Purask​.
