Indian Illustrated Classics is an innovative literary project under which well known novels in seven Indian regional languages will be published in a simple and colorfully illustrated format. The idea is to introduce well known Indian literature and their writers to the reading masses. Each Indian Illustrated Classics book contains six well known novels which are individually summarized in just 32 pages and the entire story unfolds in a colorfully illustrated format. This way the reading process is simplified and the story is easily understood in a matter of minutes. The hallmark of Indian Illustrated Classics is all about inspiring readers towards fostering Indian literature, thus creating many more readers and admirers of the profound legacy of Indian writers and their best known books. It's also a matter of pride that Indian Illustrated Classics is the first and the only effort of its kind towards adapting and globalizing Indian literature in the graphical form of illustrations. Synopsis

Anathe is the story built round Padmavati, a woman in distress. After her husband flees the village to escape law as he had failed to repay the loans he had raised a pregnant Padmavati is forced to quit the house. She walks out and lands at bachelor Seenappa's house in pouring rain. Seenappa considers his duty to help her out but the village community takes offence. It is not proper for a bachelor, living alone, to offer shelter to a woman in his house, even if she is in dire need of help is the community's argument citing tradition in support of their stand. But Seenappa defies the dicta of the community and stands by her. He tries to locate her husband who, in the meanwhile, gets set to marry another girl thinking that Padmavati might have died. Will they unite? What situation she will face? Prof. Gopalakrishna Adiga weaves a story which is set in coastal Karnataka in the early '50s.

Prof. M Gopalakrishna Adiga
A prolific poet, uncompromising critic and a profound thinker that is how one can introduce Prof. M Gopal- akrishna Adiga. For over five decades he influenced hundreds of writers through his literary works which included poems, essays, and translations. But he ex- celled as a poet. No wonder he is hailed as the doyen of the modernist Kannada literary movement. A post graduate in English from Mysore University, Prof Adiga taught English but wrote in Kannada. He was the principal of two colleges, worked as Deputy Director (Editorial), National Book Trust, and Editor of Saakshi, a literary magazine that was known for its excellence. His writings, as one scholar has observed, reflects humanity. Bahavataranga, Kattuvevu Navu, Chande Maddale, Nadedu Banda Daari, Bhoomi Geethe, Vardhamana, Battalarada Gange are some of his major works spread over seven decades. His two novels are Anathe and Akashadeepa. Adiga is a must read for all poets. His stature as a great master of Kannada poetry remains undimin- ished. Prof Adiga is the recipient of many awards, which include State and Central Akademies.
