Synopsis
This is a story built round a conservative middle class family that lived in the '60s in Mysore. Sunanda, the heroine of this story, is brought up in the traditional way with her grandmother, a widow, telling her mytho- logical stories about pious women who considered their husbands as virtual gods and were prepared for sacrifice. This makes a lasting impression on Sunanda who loses her young loving husband and returns to her parent's house as widow. When an initiative is taken for her remarriage she is torn between her love for the first husband and the husband to be. This creates a conflict in her mind and she starts sleep walking and doing things which calls for psychiatric treatment. Will she become a normal person? Will she remarry? The story by Triveni unfolds here.

About The Author

'Triveni', One of the most popular novelists in Kannada Triveni (1928-1963) was forefront in putting to pen the joys and sorrows and ups and downs of women. Her prose was simple and lively with a tinge of humour which greatly succeeded in creating a new reading community. Her novels based on psychological themes brought rich laurels to Triveni besides creating a wave of popularity. Triveni was born Bhagirathi but her school records show her name as Anasuya. When she married an English lecturer she became Anasuya Shankar. But when she took up the pen to become a novelist she chose to write under the name Triveni. 'Apaswara' was her first novel. But the first to see the light of the day was 'Hoovuhannu'. The reader response to it encouraged her to pen more. That's how Triveni's tryst with Kannada literature began and a series of novels started flowing out of her mind - Apajaya, Tavarekola, Vasantagaana, Banu Belagitu, Avala Mane, Hridaya Geethe, Sharapanjara, Belli Moda, Bekkina Kannu are some of her novels. Sharapanjara, Belli Moda, Mukti, Hannele Chiguridaga and Hoovu Hannu have been filmed. She has also written several short stories. Her novel Avala Mane has won the Karnataka Sahitya Akademi award. Triveni could have written more and won more accolades but when fate snatched her away she was barely 35.
