Sri Aurobindo
PUBLISHER'S NOTE
Swami Vivekananda has said, "The history of the world is the history of a few men who had faith in themselves." The lives of such great men are a storehouse of moral and social values. Our objective is to expose the children of Mother India to such personalities who were able to manifest their inner divinity by upholding the eternal values in their exemplary lives. Swami Vivekananda awakened the "sleeping soul" of India. A number of great national leaders have led their lives after the ideal of Swamiji and have served God and the country at the same time. Therefore it is essential that the children, in order to carry on the mantle of greatness, study such lives who have worked for making India great. As each one came from a different background, reading their lives will instil in the children, who also come from different backgrounds, a fuller idea on how to develop their own personalities in the light of such torch-bearers of our nation.
To help them achieve their ideal, on the auspicious occasion of the 150th Birth Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, we are bringing out a few booklets on the lives of such great Indians. This book on Sri Aurobindo forms a part of that series. We hope that this will encourage the young Indians to cherish those noble aspirations and move towards their own perfection and work selflessly for the common welfare.
Vivekananda was a soul of puissance if ever there was one, a very lion among men, but the definitive work he has left behind is quite incommensurate with our impression of his creative might and energy. We perceive his influence still working gigantically, we know not well how, we know not well where, in something that is not yet formed, something leonine, grand, intuitive, upheaving that has entered the soul of India and we say, "Behold, Vivekananda still lives in the soul of his Mother [India] and in the souls of her children." -Sri Aurobindo
