KRISHNA : THE ENCHANTER
The Bhagawat Purana sings of the glory of Vishnu and his incarnations. The tenth chapter, on which the present series is based, depicts the story of the life of Shri Krishna. Attributed to Vyasa, the author of the Mahabharata, the Bhagawat is one of the most popular of the eighteen major Puranas.
Our earlier volumes narrated the childhood days of Krishna spent in Gokul and Vrindavana where together with Balarama, he spent his time playing pranks and killing demons with equal case. Krishna and Balarama grew up to be strong, handsome and adventurous lads. At 16, they were invited to Mathura, where they killed the cruel Kamsa. Jarasandha, Kamsa's father-in-law was enraged and repeatedly attacked Mathura with a huge army. The yodavas led by Krishna and Balarama however defeated him each time. To protect his people, Krishna created a fortress town in the sea and named it Dwaraka.
