KRISHNA: THE LORD OF DWARAKA
The Bhagawat Purana sings of the glory of Vishnu and his incarnations. The tenth chapter, on which the present series is based, depicts the story of the life of Shri Krishna. Attributed to Yyasa, the author of the Mahabharata, the Bhaga- wat is one of the most popular of the eighteen major Puranas.
Our carlier volumes in this series depicted the playful childhood of Krishna spent in Gokul and Vrindavana. His days were spent herding cows, stealing butter and teasing the Gopikas, and overpowering a series of demons. Krishna and Balarama were then invited to Mathura where they confronted a mad elephant and a number of unscrupulous wrestlers set up by Kamsa. The brave young men vanquished all the foes in their path and finally killed the cruel Kamsa who had usurped the throne of Mathura.
