KRISHNA: VICTORY OVER KAMSA
The Bhagawat Purana sings of the glory of Vishnu and his incarnations. The tenth chapter, on which the present series is based, depicts the story of the life of Shri Krishna. Attributed to Vyasa, the author of the Mahabharata, the Bhagawat is one of the most popular of the eighteen major Puranas.
Our earlier volumes in this series depicted the playful childhood of Krishna which has become proverbial in India. They described the early years of Krishna spent in stealing butter, herding cows and teasing the Gopikas while performing miraculous feats against the demons sent by the cruel Kamsa.
The present volume traces the events subsequent to Krishna and Balarama accepting the invitation of Kamsa to visit Mathura.
