Sundersena

Sundarsena sets out across the seas to meet his future bride, Princess Mandaravati of Mamsadvipa. Mandarvati, impatient to be near her future husband, also sets out from Hamsadvipa. Many adventures follow, keeping the reader in delightful suspense. Sundarsena reads like any action-packed thriller of  today, but is in fact a tale that held a royal household  spellbound nine centuries ago. It is part of the famous Kathasaritsagar written in the 11th century by Somedeva, the Court poet of Kashmir.

Summary Of This Comics:

The Story of Prince Sundarsen and Princess Mandravati

A long time ago, in the land of Nishad, there lived a brave prince named Sundarsen. One day, while out hunting, he encountered an old woman who told him about the beautiful Princess Mandravati of Hansdweep. When Sundarsen saw the princess's portrait, he fell instantly in love with her. Both their families arranged for their marriage. Princess Mandravati set sail to meet the prince, but a terrible storm erupted at sea. Her ship was wrecked, and she washed ashore on an unknown island. There, a kind sage offered her shelter. Meanwhile, upon receiving the news, Sundarsen also set out to find her. He met with the same fate—the storm sank his ship as well. Sundarsen and a friend of his managed to swim to shore. As luck would have it, both of them had landed on the very same island. One day, Sundarsen saved the princess from a crocodile. Both were overjoyed to have found each other. However, their happiness was short-lived. A greedy merchant deceitfully lured the princess onto his ship and fled, leaving Sundarsen behind. Heartbroken, Sundarsen wandered into the forest, where he was captured by bandits who took him away to be sacrificed to their goddess. There, Sundarsen discovered that the bandits' leader was an old acquaintance of his father. The leader apologized to him and set him free. Just then, the bandits also captured the merchant who had abducted the princess. In this way, Sundarsen and Mandravati were reunited. Sundarsen forgave the merchant. Thereafter, they all returned happily to their kingdom, Alka. There, their wedding was celebrated with great pomp and grandeur, and Sundarsen became the new king. The entire city lit up with lights and music.

Moral of the Story: One should never lose courage, even in difficult times, for truth and love always triumph.
